Solution to Final Answer

Combining the answers to the three rounds gives the phrase XUXUB MUST DIE. A quick Google search reveals that this is the title of a book. Entering this title into the answer form returned a correct response along with the message, "Where might you find this book?". Perhaps this book could be found in the UC Berkeley library... .

In the first run of the hunt:

Teams went to the main stacks of Doe Library and found the copy of Xuxub Must Die. Inside was a slip of paper with a list of sets of three numbers. These numbers referred to (page number - line number - word number) in the book. The resulting phrase was LOOK ABOVE AND RIGHT FOR GERMAN BOOK OF MAYA BUILDINGS OPEN UP PLAN FOURTEEN. Teams then found that book (Bauten der Maya, located on the next shelf over) and opened it to find a book of maps. In place of map 14 was a packet with the final puzzle.

In the second run of the hunt:

Teams went to the north entrance of Doe Library (which was unfortunately closed for the weekend) and met a TA there who handed them a copy of Xuxub Must Die and a slip of paper with sets of three numbers. These numbers referred to (page number - line number - word number) in the book. The resulting phrase was SEARCH THE SPOT WHERE YOU ENDED YOUR FINAL PROJECT RUN AROUND NEAR THE ROCKS THAT GAVE OFF SMOKE. Teams then went to the courtyard where the runaround ended and found a packet with the final puzzle near the volcano.

Final puzzle:

The final puzzle was a list of places on campus with humorous descriptions ( [[ pdf ]] ). Some of these descriptions included the answers to the puzzles in the Tikal part of the hunt. Connecting the buildings that corresponded to the answers in each round in the order that the puzzles were listed in that round gives polygons (see following image: red = round 1, green = round 2, blue = round 3). The flavortext, take a voyage to the center, suggests that the centers of each polygon are important. Connecting the centers gives a triangle, and then the center of that triangle is Faculty Glade. The word "voyage" in the flavortext refers to the statue "Voyage" located in Faculty Glade. Teams went there and met Professor Cavetour, who asked them to excavate (e.g. dig through a thin layer of woodchips) to find an additional Mayan calendar disc.
