[New TAs are on stage, looking bright-eyed & naive. The Head TA walks in, looking jaded.]

Head TA: Are you the new TAs for Anthro 50C?

TA #1: Yeah. Artemis E. Fact. You can call me Art.

TA #2: I'm Alabama Smith.

Head TA: I'm Robert Graves. I'm the head TA.

TA #2: Have you TA'd this class before?

Head TA: Yep. In fact, this is the 13th time.

TA #1: Wow. Is Prof. CAVE-tour your advisor?

Head TA: Yeah. But don't call him CAVE-tour, unless you want to get on his bad side. It's ka-VAY-tour. [Trailing off sadly] I made that mistake once...

TA #2: Got any advice about teaching the class?

Head TA: [Leans back] Ok. Let me tell you how this is going to go. He'll get back from some dig a day before classes. So for the first part of the semester he'll reuse old course materials.

TA #1: Don't the students just look up the solutions?

Head TA: Of course. And then, because everyone is doing well, he thinks that they're mastering the material. So he makes the next batch of problem sets, the ones before the 2nd midterm, impossibly hard.

TA #2: That'll make for fun office hours.

Head TA: By the end of the semester things kind of settle down. The stuff before the third midterm can be a bit long, but clever students usually find shortcuts.

[Prof. Cavétour enters and goes to the lectern.

Professor: Welcome to Anthro 50C. I am Professor Xavier Cavétour. I recently returned from a very important dig where I spent my time discovering very important things.

I'm very much looking forward this course. We'll do a lot of problem sets, which are very important to your learning. Very important to your grade are the exams. We'll have 3 midterms, and if you pass those, you'll be prepared to do the fieldwork for your final project. That will be very important.

Student: Prof. CAVE-TOUR, does this course have a bSpace site?

Professor: What's your name?

Student: Stuart Dent.

[Prof. Cavétour writes down the studet's name.]

Professor: My name is Cavétour. [Pointedly does't answer question.] I'll be hosting the course materials on my personal website, http://xaviercavetour.com/ . This promises to be a very important semester. Good luck.
